Butlers Ferry crossed the Macdonald River between Portion 6, Parish of Wonga, County of Hunter comprising 50 acres granted to Sylvester Butler and Portion Portion 10 Parish of St Albans, County of Northumberland.

Silvester Butler had established his ferry crossing over the Macdonald River by 1865 when several parish roads were declared in the district. The gazettal of these roads was published in the NSW Government Gazette of 30 May 1865. It is not known how long the ferry service was in operation.
