The opening of the Catholic Church at Cattai took place on Sunday 8 February 1880 with the Very Reverend Archpriest Sheehy as celebrant and the Very Rev Dean O’Connell as assistant priest. After the collection was taken up, the debt had been reduced to about six pounds.
