Hawkesbury People & Places Fernhurst was the name of a property located in Kurrajong Heights, New South Wales. The twelve acre block on the south-eastern side of Douglas Road and Bells Line of Road was once part of an 80 acre grant to Samuel North in December 1839. The property was the home of noted botanist, artist and writer Caroline Atkinson in the 1860s. Fernhurst was later owned by William Henry Bowman, Selina Doyle and J L L Tietkins (son of explorer and naturalist W H Tietkins). In 1922 the property was purchased by Alwin Peck and after his death in 1928 continued in the ownership of his wife Alice Constance until 1941. The property was a guesthouse for many years from the time of William Bowman in the 1870s managed by Mrs R Peck (wife of Henry Peck), then Mrs Bowman and later Mrs Joseph Smith. Excerpt from the Sydney Morning Herald 21 September 1892, p. 10 Advertising. Mrs [Selina] Doyle has recently purchased the beautiful property at Kurrajong which she had been renting from Mr W H Bowman. Please make your comment below.
