Hawkesbury People & Places Gunderman Public School was located at 6129 Wisemans Ferry Road, Gunderman on the Hawkesbury River, New South Wales. It occupied a small block of land next to what is known today as the Wombat Cafe. Only the brick toilet block remains from the school buildings which were destroyed by fire. Parkes, Colleen and Geoff Knapman, Kevin and Margaret Finlayson. The teacher was Mr Barton. This photo was taken the day the Johnson family left the school. Due to an increase in enrolment in 1968 a portable building was moved from Dee Why Public School to Gunderman over the Christmas holidays 1968/69. In early 1972, a septic sewerage system was installed at the school. Administrative files for the school are available from State Records and Archives of NSW www.records.nsw.gov.au Gunderman Provisional School (Parish of Spencer, County of Northumberland) operated from May 1946 until November 1957, and as a public school from November 1957 until closure in December 1978.
