Highlands

The Highlands were located between Freeman’s Reach and Wilberforce and between the old common and Bushell’s Lagoon. Families who lived there included the Smiths and the Nicholls. Land was thought to be safe from flooding but in 1867 Frederick Nicholls and his wife Jane (nee Martin) were rescued from the attic of their house at the Highlands which was located on the first ridge above Bushell’s Lagoon.
