The building known as the Horse and Jockey Hotel was constructed as a residence for the Onus family by 1840. The next owners were the Crisford family and it was several times used as a school. When the railway was put through to Richmond in 1864 the building was remodelled by Mr J Bates and opened as the Horse and Jockey Hotel.
