Island Flat operated as Mangrove Upper Provisional School from November 1869 until October 1873, then as Island Flat half-time school from April 1875 until June 1880, then as a house-to-house school June 1889 until August 1891, again as a half-time school from August 1891 until July 1909 and finally from May 1912 until closure in June 1915.
