Hawkesbury People & Places Kable Street is a street in the town of Windsor which runs in a south-easterly direction from The Terrace, crossing George Street to Macquarie Street. The street is named after Henry Kable who was an early European settler in the district. Henry Kable, born 17 February 1764 Norfolk, England was convicted of burglary at Thetford, Norfolk, England, on the 1 February 1783 and sentenced to death. This was commuted to transportation , initially to America, but this was changed and he embarked on the Friendship, a convict transport in the First Fleet to New South Wales. After arriving in the new colony he married Susannah Holmes on the 10 February 1788, also a convict and from the same village and who already had a child by him. Over the years he had many business dealings with successful entrepreneurs such as Simeon Lord and James Underwood. In 1811 Kable moved to Windsor where he operated a store and brewery, the latter in association with a partner, Richard Woodbury. He also amassed large areas of land in the colony. Henry died on 16 March 1846 at the age of 82 and was buried in St Matthew’s Church of England Cemetery, Windsor. Read more about Henry Kable Please make your comment below.
