There was no minister at the Church of England on Sunday last, although a number of persons attended expecting service to be conducted. Not unfrequently there is a minister and no congregation.
The timber church was constructed in 1880 to replace an 1849 structure which was washed away in the 1867 flood. In the 1860s, the minister came from Wiseman’s Ferry to conduct services. An article in the Windsor and Richmond Gazette of January 1924 recounted the memories of Mick Christie of Lower Portland in which he remembered the minister coming from Windsor to preach during his lifetime.
