Hawkesbury People & Places Mitchell Cottage, originally known as East Lynne is located in the grounds of the Australiana Pioneer Village Wilberforce, New South Wales. Constructed of timber slabs in about 1899, the cottage was originally sited in Crooked Lane, North Richmond, New South Wales and was the home of Ernest and Edith Mitchell and several generations of the Mitchell family. It was relocated to the Australiana Pioneer Village in 1970. Mitchell Cottage. Cathy McHardy November 2010. Mr Ern Mitchell built this dwelling in Crooked Lane, North Richmond around the mid to late 1890s. Like the previous generation of his family. Ern was a skilled bullock team driver, employed as a road builder and is credited with constructing the main streets of Richmond using his team and a single furrow plough. Ern was also involved in the 1908 resiting of a church to the corner of Comleroy and Single Ridge Roads, using a specially constructed dray drawn by 35 bullocks. This building was one of the early resitings carried out by Bill McLachlan for the opening of ’the Village’ in 1970. The Australiana Village is listed by NSW Heritage as an place of local and state significance. Please make your comment below.
