The “Best” Vapour Incandescent Lamp will be installed in a week or ten days at the School of Arts.
‘The improvements at the School of Arts are now completed. The library is where the reading room was and the reading room is what was the former library. The present reading room has been kalsomined in white and makes an attractive room. Messrs Hitchenor and Coleman did the carpentering and coloring.’

George Bowman (elder son of John and Honor Bowman) contributed £100 towards the construction of the School of Arts. The building was completed in 1866 and was opened by Sir Henry Parkes. The decorative porch was added in about 1896.
