Richmond Telephone Exchange

Richmond Telephone Exchange was converted from manual to automatic operation at 6.30pm on Friday 23 November 1973. The new $2 million dollar exchange connected the 1200 subscribers to the STD network. The manual exchange had a staff of 30 women plus 2 male night attendants and was housed in the Richmond Post Office building. Work commenced on the new exchange building in 1972.
