‘On Wednesday evening of last week thenpeople of Pitt Town and surrounding districtsassembled at St James’ Schoolroom , each intent on doing a share to swell the Century Thanksgiving Fund: and they did sewll it, for the gross proceeds for the evening amounted to ?20?The Rev H Saumarez-Smith, M A, intimated in his address that he had not seen such a large and enthusiastic gathering, considering the population of the town, in any of the districts he had yet visited? specific object will be to inaugurate a fund for the re-roofing of St James Church.’ About 200 people attended the function including many clergy from other districts and denominations.
