For further information on Tennyson Post Office please contact the National Archives of Australia www.naa.gov.au. There are two files relating to the post office held at the NSW office at Chester Hill, NSW.
Tennyson was opened as a Receiving Office by Miss H McMahon on 10 April 1901. It became a Telephone Office on 22 August 1917 and a Telephone Exchange on 17 January 1918. In 1927, the classification Recieving Office was abolished and the title ’non-official post office’ was introduced. This explains the date of opening being listed as 1 January 1927 in the records of the Post Master General. The post office was closed on 26 July 1967.
