Hawkesbury People & Places ‘The Cedars’ was the name of a house in Windsor Street, Richmond, New South Wales. The premises were operated as a guesthouse by Mrs Jennie Elizabeth Readford during the period 1892-1893. It was also the home of several Richmond doctors including Dr Jockel and Dr Helsham. In 1902, it was purchased by Michael McMahon who also owned ‘Garryowen’ on Comleroy Road, Kurrajong. The exact location of ‘The Cedars’ in not known but it was built on Allotment 2 of Section 5 of the town at approximately 324-326 Windsor Street. In about 1970 the allotments in this section of the street were purchased by the Commonwealth Government for the installation of Richmond Telephone Exchange. In Richmond too, Mr McMahon has some valuable properties having only recently purchased ‘The Cedars’ in Windsor-street, the residence of our roads engineer, Mr M E Kirwan.
