Captain Michael Hogan bought the 400 acres Woodhay Farm in 1796, and renamed it Cornwallis. He assigned free use of 40 acres to two of his servants for life, but after their death in 1847 John Hand took possession of the 40 acres. The 1856 eviction case against Hand was decided by the Privy Council in 1861, in William Hogan’s favour.
